Nerida Palmer is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who has enjoyed providing supervision to clinical psychologists, psychologists, psychiatric registrars and clinical social workers for many years. She is passionate about providing learning and support to newly trained clinicians to fulfil their potential as therapists, as well as to more experienced therapists who wish to continue to develop and reflect on their practice and strengthen certain skill sets. Nerida is accredited with the Psychology Board of Australia to provide supervision to general psychologists enrolled in a Clinical Psychology degree and Clinical Psychology registrars seeking endorsement. She is accredited with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry to provide supervision to registrars in Psychiatry. Nerida is also a mentor with the Australian Clinical Psychology Association Mentoring program. Nerida's professional experience is in adult mental health services and in private practice and she brings a wealth of experience in these sectors to her supervision. Nerida worked in community mental health teams for 15 years, treating severe presentations of anxiety, mood, psychotic and personality disorders in adults, including clients with chronic and high-risk suicide and self-harm presentations and with complex trauma backgrounds. She is experienced in working effectively in these multidisciplinary settings. In private practice, Nerida provides therapy to adults presenting with a range of difficulties, from acute life stressors through to more severe or long-standing mood, anxiety, personality and trauma-based difficulties.
Nerida's primary therapeutic models are CBT, DBT, EMDR, Internal Family Systems and Schema Therapy. She also draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Nerida was instrumental in setting up a DBT program within the community mental health team in which she worked and has been a part of this treatment program for six years.
