Nerida is a highly experienced Senior Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of expertise in supporting adults facing emotional and psychological challenges. She is known for her genuine warmth, respectful and compassionate approach, and commitment to delivering evidence-based, effective care. Nerida’s particular areas of interest include trauma-related conditions and oncology. She provides both individual and group therapy at Southside and coordinates Southside’s Emotional Wellness group program.
Nerida has particular expertise in working with clients who have experienced trauma in childhood, adulthood, or within military and emergency service roles. With a gentle, client-centred approach, Nerida helps individuals build self-understanding and resilience, process past traumatic experiences, develop more effective coping skills, and create a fulfilling life beyond trauma and grief.
Nerida’s therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based models, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
With over 15 years of experience in public community mental health services, Nerida has provided specialised treatment for most mental health conditions, including Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Complex and Simple PTSD, Psychotic Disorders, and Borderline Personality Disorder. She has worked extensively with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts, self-harm behaviours, and severe emotional distress. She provided group and individual Dialectical Behaviour Therapy programs in community mental health for many years.
Beyond her mental health expertise, Nerida has a special interest in supporting cancer patients and their families. She has worked within St George Hospital’s Cancer Care Clinic, providing psychological care to patients and families facing the emotional and psychological challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Nerida also works with clients navigating grief and loss, parenting challenges, pregnancy, and perinatal concerns.
In addition to her work with clients, Nerida is dedicated to supporting other mental health professionals through supervision and training. She holds an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of New South Wales and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Macquarie University. She is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).
