MATTHEW COLLINGS holds an Honours degree in Psychological Science from The University of New South Wales and a Master of Psychology (Clinical) from The University of New South Wales. He is an associate member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).
Matthew has experience working within the public and private health systems (e.g., Western Sydney Local Health District Anxiety Unit, Gordon Private Hospital Adult Inpatient Unit), and has experience in the assessment and treatment of a range of difficulties. These include anxiety and worry, stress, low mood, traumatic experiences, re-occurring distressing thoughts and related behaviours, attachment and relationship issues, amongst others. Matthew has further experience working with children, adolescents, and families experiencing emotional, behavioural, and relational problems. In addition to delivering treatment, Matthew is interested in improving the understanding and treatment of the re-occurring and distressing thoughts and associated behaviours seen in conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He has built additional expertise in this area through research completed at the University of New South Wales and work in the private sector.
Matthew works within an integrative treatment framework, drawing on a range of therapy models. This framework is helpful in ensuring a whole of person approach that addresses the diversity and potential complexity of the challenges clients are managing. Some examples of these models include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as attachment-focused, and supportive psychotherapy approaches.
